Snížit Kultuře Práh

Our platform connects socially disadvantaged people with socially responsible cultural institutions and volunteers. We uphold that access to culture is a basic human right, as well as a path to cohesive, compassionate and resilient society.

Target groups

Our target groups consist of people without shelter, families and individuals at risk of poverty and losing home, people with an experience with mental illness or addiction, refugees, young people leaving foster care, people in penitentiary and post-penitentiary care and elderly people suffering from loneliness.

Goals

We strive for a systemic change in the accessibility of culture. We are currently working on a new methodology and logistics of redistribution of free entries to cultural events on a nationwide scale, as well as for our partners outside the Czech Republic (currently in Ukraine). Our web application provides the opportunity to simply and effectively deliver the information about the program and capacities of cultural institutions to the workers of social services and their clients and further connect them with volunteers who can facilitate their visit.

Origins

In 2021, we attended several cultural events with the clients of the shelter home with nursing service (ADOS) in Prague. These were people without shelter in poor physical and mental condition. With the help of motivational interviews, we managed to spark their interest in visiting culture events. The significant positive effects on the clients of ADOS and their sense of self-worth, as well as the welcoming reactions of cultural institutions willing to offer free entries, strengthened our determination to further pursue this activity. We want to offer this experience to a greater number of vulnerable people by enacting a systemic change in the accessibility of culture. Since 2022 we have worked as an independent non-profit organization and have provided visits to cultural institutions to the users of various social services in Prague. We continue to expand the network of involved cultural and social organizations.
In 2023, we have received the patronage of the Government Commissioner for Human Rights.
